There are professionals who are trained and equipped with the proper tools to assess phonological awareness. The information provided below is for educators/parents to do a quick, informal assessment of PA skills and should not be considered an official evaluation.
A few things to keep in mind...
An informal assessment can help teachers and parents recognize where their child may need some focused practice.
The target age of this assessment would be Pre-K - Grade 2.
FUN - Phonological Awareness should always be fun and never feel like a boring “drill”
The assessment progresses from easy to difficult activities. If you are assessing young children (ex. Pre-K) they will likely have more difficulty in the later activities because they are still developing basic PA skills
